The autumnal equinox falls on September 22nd in 2024, marking the official first day of Autumn as well as the pagan holiday, Mabon.

Mabon has also been known as the pagan Thanksgiving, as it has traditionally been the time of year when farmers can see exactly how well their crops and livestock have done, thus determining how comfortably their family will be sustained throughout the winter

Mabon is a time of balance and grounding. This time of balance on Earth helps bring equilibrium to the places in your life that really need it right now. As we move into Autumn, that hot and fire energy calms. The days get cooler. Summer adventures wind down.

Create an indoor (or outdoor) altar where you can pause daily and set your intentions. Fruits and vegetables of the season, fallen leaves, seeds, and nuts are the perfect adornments for your altar, as well as crystals, candles, or any autumnal items you may feel drawn to. When creating your Autumn Equinox altar, you may like to use harvest colours like orange, red, brown, rust and gold. Fallen leaves can be used to make beautiful decorations.

This festival is named after the the God of Welsh mythology, Mabon. He is the Child of Light and the son of the Earth Mother Goddess, Modron.

Deities of Mabon: Goddesses-Modron, Morgan, Epona, Persephone, Pamona and the Muses. Gods-Mabon, Thoth, Thor, Hermes, and The Green Man.

What do you do for the Autumn Equinox?
